It has been a busy summer so far for the Social Ministry Group!
In June, our Focus Ministry was Meals on Wheels. Each week, members of our congregation deliver meals to the elderly and disabled in our community.
We also had a group go to Feed My Starving Children June and package meals to be sent to areas throughout the world where children would otherwise go hungry. Another group prepared and served a meal for children at the Minneapolis Crisis Nursery. Eighteen children and 5 adults were served a meal of macaroni and cheese, green beans and fresh fruit (menu selected at the request of the kids ). Over 50 volunteers worked on the Habitat for Humanity home!
In July, our Focus Ministry was Operation Minnesota Nice. OMN is an organization that works with volunteers to ensure servicemen and women deployed in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq know they are remembered back at home. Unfortunately, some service members don’t have family that is able to send packages from home. OMN fills this need by “adopting” these men and women and sending them packages on a monthly basis. Social Ministry members attended the first monthly OMN meetings in July

August Social ministry happenings
August’s Featured Ministry is the School Supply Drive led by Gina Krahn. This ministry collects schools supplies for donation to the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf and ultimately distribution to local Food Shelf clients. Remember the great feeling of going back to school with a brand new box of crayons with the fancy sharpener? Share that feeling with a child in need during the month of August by donating to the School Supply Drive. Bring your donations to the Social Ministry display in the Narthex during the month of August.
Interested in volunteering in August?
August 7th or August 30th from 3:30-6:30 pm, volunteers are needed to help prepare a meal at the Minneapolis Crisis Nursery. A small group will make and serve a meal for approximately 20 children staying at the facility. It’s a great opportunity to spend some time with little ones who are temporarily separated from their parents.
