Christ the King Lutheran Church, New Brighton, MN

Congregation Council Meeting Minutes—May 17, 2010

 

Members present: Pastor Paul, Pastor Deborah, Pastor Cindy, Cindy Larson (P), Len Krumm (PE), Dave Durham (T), Ann Bollmeier (S), Kim Burfeind, Greg Debelak, Rich Pieper , Jenny Popp, and Todd Stachon.

 

Members absent: Cyndi Lesher, John Foell.

 

I. Cindy Larson called the meeting to order at 7:01 PM.

 

II. Pastor Cindy led a Bible study from the Gospel of Luke and opened the meeting with prayer.

 

III. Council Minutes: Kim Burfeind moved to approve the minutes from April 19, 2010. Greg Debelak seconded. Motion carried.

 

IV. Treasurer’s Report:

a. April total receipts: $81,174.24.

b. April total expenditures: $86,092.46.

Ann Bollmeier moved to accept the financial report. Jennifer Popp seconded. Motion Carried.

 

V. New Business:

a. Jill Stivers reported on the findings of the CtK Website Task Force. She reviewed several other church websites. The new communication position will be responsible for creating and updating the CtK website.

b.

c. A motion was made by Len Krumm and seconded by Cindy Larson to direct the Property Committee to repair the parking lot at a cost not to exceed $10,000 from the Property Committee budget. All additional funds are to be provided through donations. Three options were discussed:

i. Crack sealing and pot hole repair

ii. Crack sealing, pot hole repair, and seal coating with granite chips

iii. Milling the asphalt and overlay the lot (not needed yet)

The council, upon Len Krumm’s recommendation, thought that option ii was the best. Motion carried.

d. A motion was made by Rich Peiper and seconded by Greg Debelak to have Todd Stachon and the Constitution/Bylaw subcommittee investigate whether or not the policies and procedures of the church say anything in opposition to allowing CtK to be the non-profit agency that complies with the state gaming commission for a permit to have a raffle at a benefit for CtK member Tom Fuller. They will check to see if there are any liability issues associated with pursuing a gaming permit. Tom has a lung disease and is in need of a lung transplant. He is no longer able to work. His extended family is organizing a benefit for this fall. Motion carried.

e. Pastor Paul reported on the continuing work done on the Strategic Plan. The staff focused primarily on the area of Youth and Family ministry.

 

VI. Pastor’s Reports

a. The call committee for the Youth and Family Pastor has entered the interview phase. There are currently five potential candidates. Two candidates were interviewed on May 11th and the remaining candidates will be scheduled for interviews on May 20th and May 26th. The call committee for the Children’s Ministry Director has decided to slow the process and may wait to hire until the Youth and Family Pastor has been chosen.

b. Bible studies have been completed for the year.

c. The 2010 Block Party is scheduled for September 19, 2010. The team is organized and has begun to meet and plan.

 

VII. Announcements and Updates: Next meeting June 21, 2010.

 

VIII. Pastor Paul closed the meeting with prayer.

 

IX. Meeting adjourned at 8:37 PM.
