From Your Minister of Music:
Sunday, June 6:
We will be recognizing our Sanctuary Choir and King's Ringers as they will be leading both the 9:00 and 10:30 services.
Summer Choir
The Sanctuary Choir season is over on the 6th of June but we would like to provide three summer opportunities for singers to participate in Sunday morning worship. On Sundays, June 27, July 18, and August 15. The choir will warm up and sing through their number at 8:15 and then sing for the 9:00 service. This opportunity is open to all who enjoy singing, regardless of past experience. We will be doing some of your favorite hymns/anthems so come and join us.
Celebrate Team Leading Worship on June 13
Our Celebrate team will be involved in worship at both the 9:00 and 10:30 services on the 13th of June. These fourteen team members are some of our most faithful musicians as they rehearse and lead worship all year long. Please worship with us and extend to them your thanks for their faithfulness and musical leadership.
Outstanding Student Musician for June 2010
Congratulations to Isaac van Bruggen, the recipient of our Outstanding Student Musician for the month of June. Isaac is a 2009 graduate of Irondale High School where he was very active in the choral and musical theater programs. He studied piano with Carol Hokel, was a member of Minnesota Boychoir, Brundibar with St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Opera program in 2003 and the Houston Children’s Chorus. Isaac has just complete his freshman year at Luther College in Decorah, IA where he remains actively involved in music by singing in the Norsemen (Freshmen Male Chorus), is taking voice lessons, and is participating in the musical theater program as well.
During his time at Christ the King, Isaac was involved in Christmas pageants, hand bell choirs, Celebrate Team, the youth musical and has sung solos and played piano for a number of groups. He has many fond memories of his time here including crawling around the floor under the bell tables while accompanying his grandmother to bell rehearsal.
One of Isaac’s most memorable musical experiences came on his 16th birthday when the Minnesota Boychoir sang on the Sydney Opera House stage in Sydney, Austraila. His Boychoir experiences have greatly influenced his passion for music.
Isaac credits his mother and grandma Joanne as his biggest motivators and greatest source of inspiration. “My mom as always been there for me. Every event, every concert. Even if she’s been there already. My grandma is the one who keeps me going. I’m amazed at her incredible musicianship and she’s with me in spirit every day, cheering me on.”
Isaac has not solidified his future plans but he knows that music will continue to be a large and important part of his life.
Worship and Planning Committee
A year ago, under the leadership of Pastor Shelley Cunningham and Bruce Phelps, a Worship and Planning Committee was formed to explore ways to enhance worship at Christ the King. The charge was twofold: First, find ways to make the Celebrate Service more of a personal worship experience by exploring new and different ways of telling the Good News. Secondly, to find new ways to enhance the liturgical seasons and special events at our church by bringing new visuals and art displays, to the worship experience in cooperation with committees already involved in these functions.
Musically submitted:
