Congregation Council Meeting Minutes—February 15, 2010

Members present: Pastor Paul, Pastor Deborah, Pastor Cindy, Cindy Larson (P), Len Krumm (PE), Dave Durham (T), Ann Bollmeier (S), Greg Debelak, John Foell, Cyndi Lesher, Rich Pieper, Jenny Popp, and Todd Stachon

Members absent: Kim Burfeind.

I. Cindy Larson called the meeting to order at 7:01 PM.

II. New council members were officially welcomed: Rich Pieper, Jennifer Popp, and Todd Stachon.

III. Truman Jeffers and Les Kuivanen proposed a resolution to grant the title of Pastor Emeritus to Pastor Paul Olson. This is an honorary title that bears no responsibility and provides no compensation. The resolution reads:

Whereas, Pastor Paul Heiberg Olson served as the founding pastor of Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Brighton, Minnesota; and

Whereas, under his leadership the congregation grew substantially in numbers and in ministry during his tenure of more than 36 years;

Therefore be it resolved that Christ the King bestow upon Pastor Olson the title of Pastor Emeritus as a way of honoring him for his distinguished service to the Lord and this church and its members.

A motion was made by Len Krumm and seconded by Greg Debelak to accept the resolution. Motion carried.

IV. Pastor Paul opened with meeting with prayer and Bible study.

V. Council Minutes: Cyndi Lesher moved to approve the minutes from the January 18, 2010 meeting. John Foell seconded. Motion carried.

VI. Annual meeting: Ann Bollmeier moved to approve the minutes from the 2010 Annual meeting. Rich Pieper seconded. Motion carried.

VII. Treasurer’s report:

a. January’s total receipts $128,933.10.

b. January’s total expenditures $89,686.58

Greg Debelak moved to accept the financial report. John Foell seconded. Motion. Carried.

VIII. New Business:

a. Property Committee resolution: The Property committee recommends to the Congregation Council the purchase of a new roof top HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning) unit for the Fireside Lounge at a cost not to exceed $25,000, and that the task force of Norm Wells, Erling Eibs, Jon Jacobson and Darwin Taylor make the decision about the unit efficiency and contractor. Funding will be worked out through the finance committee. Len Krumm moved to accept the resolution. Rich Pieper seconded. Motion carried.

b. Mission Sight Profile resolution:

Whereas, the Saint Paul Area Synod office requires congregations to fill out and submit a Ministry Site Profile which provides information for the synod and pastoral candidates about Christ the King; and

Whereas, the Ministry Site Profile has been reviewed, revised and approved by the Call Committee and recommended for adoption by the Congregation Council; and:

Whereas, the Congregation Council has also reviewed the Ministry Site Profile;

Therefore, be it resolved that the Christ the King Congregation Council accept and approve the Ministry Site Profile for submission to the Saint Paul Area Synod for use in the call process.

Pastor Paul moved to accept the resolution. Greg Debelak seconded.

Motion carried.

c. The following 23 people were received as new members on February 7, 2010:

i. Thomas Howard, Willette Cooke and children Karuza and Joetta Cooke

ii. Cary and Carrie McCollar and children Sydney and Connor

iii. Nate Nemmers and Andrea Jack

iv. Jim and Sandy Nickel

v. Ryan and Rachel Rassmussen and children Raven, Rayna, RJ, and Redick

vi. Jerry and Jan Swanberg

vii. Jason and Jennifer Zwieg and son Jacob

Pastor Paul moved to accept the new members into membership. Cyndi Lesher seconded. Motion carried.

d. Pastoral Housing Allowance Approval: Whereas, the IRS requires that the congregation council approve the dollar amount allotted for each pastor’s housing allowance and that these figures be recorded in the council minutes. Therefore be it resolved that the following housing allowance amounts be approved:

Pastor Paul L. Larsen = $34,000

Pastor Deborah Birkeland = $26,800

Pastor Cindy Bullock = $40,000

Cyndi Lesher moved to approve the housing allowance. John Foell seconded. Motion carried.

IX. Pastors Reports:

a. Pastor Cindy is working with the search committee for a new Children’s Ministry Director. The search committee members are: Becky Alamat, Kim Burfeind, Mark Edwards, Joel Hoeger, Lynne Macziewski, Holly Olson, and Anne van Bruggen.

b. Pastor Paul is working with the Call Committee for the Youth and Family Pastor. The Call Committee members are: Cheri Aldridge and Melodee Rossi (Co-chairs), Krista Redlinger-Grosse (Congregational Communicator), Rick Brauer, Nancy Burton and Ron Salber. The Call Committee will also request input from parents, middle school and high school youth.

X. Announcements and updates:

a. Next meeting: March 16, 2010.
